Looking Ahead
Where we've been - Where we're going

As we reflect on the past year in the life of Springfield Gardens
United Methodist Church
we can truly say that we have been blessed individually and corporately. We can
clearly see the hand of God in all of our accomplishments here at Springfield.
On June 22nd 2006 SGUMC purchased a fourth piece of property. It is located directly across from the church at 132-14 Farmers
Blvd. Shortly after the purchase, many of the saints
came together in gratitude and were able to tour the newly acquired property and the Cultural
Arts Center.
The Berean Center continues as a center for theological research
and study, furthering our mandate to serve the community at large. In addition to the Berean Center, Springfield has again opened its doors to New York Theological Seminary, as a site for its Certificate in Christian Education Program. This program provides an introduction to theological disciplines for laity, as well as ordained ministers, and other concerned Christians
who are currently involved or interested in ministry.
We honored our beloved brother Edwin
Christopher, as we have designated a special room in the Book Nook (housed in the Cultural
Arts Center) as The Edwin
Christopher Reading Room. This is certainly a fitting tribute given brother Ed’s love of God and reading.
2006 has been a year of blessings
as we witnessed the sanction and sending out of one of our Ministerial Assistants to accept her
first pastoral charge. Additionally,
we increased our Local Lay speakers to 29 and our Certified Lay speakers to 50, totaling a phenomenal 79 Lay
speakers who are ready, willing and enabled through God’s grace to serve in various areas of ministry in the United
Methodist Church, missions (local and abroad), from Far Rockaway to Ghana West Africa, St.Vincent, Jamaica, and more to come.
Last year our missionary work was completed in
our backyard. Members of the SGUMC community joined our missionary team to take
the Word and love of God to the Far Rockaway community through the Far Rockaway Mission.
Last, but not least, this year 2007
we thank God for our Pastor, and celebrate 15 years of service
in this Vineyard. We thank God, for he is truly a Man of God and God’s humble servant.
We pray our Pastor’s continued strength and blessing upon his family.
As we begin a new year with a model of
leadership that calls for increased accountability to each other, we ask God for wisdom, knowledge and understanding to continue
the work that must be done here at Springfield.
We are grateful to those who stood in the gap and to all the faithful who chose to worship and believe God. You did not get distracted! You kept the main thing the main thing!
Behold,
Look, See what the Lord has done for us! See what a mighty God he is! God is not finished with us yet!
